Innovative uSky track structure is certified

[28.09.2021] uSky track structure was among those constituents of uSky Transport & Infrastructure Technology certified recently, which underwent a thorough check for safety compliance in accordance with international standards.

The results of the testing by TUV SW Standardization Certifications has proven that the innovative uSky track structure is safe and not inferior in safety to standard passenger transport technologies.


Some of the inspection conducted under the verification procedure were:

  • Visual and dimensional verification of track structure,

  • Torque tightening inspection of track structure,

  • Deflection of track structure.

The basis of the string-rail track structure is uRail. The uRail is a conventional continuous (along the length) steel, reinforced concrete or composite steel reinforced concrete beam or truss equipped with a rail head and additionally strengthened with pre-stressed (tensioned) strings.


The uRail combines the characteristics of the flexible cable (at a long distance between anchored supports) and rigid beam (at a small beam span – under a wheel of a uPod and above the support).


Also, at the heart of the integrated technology, there are several types of uRails, each with individual technical features and consumer qualities. The selection of a string rail type depends on the track design and function as well as the goals set, whether it will serve for passenger or freight traffic, whether it shall accommodate eventual expansion of the line or shifting a rolling stock from passenger to freight type and vice versa. The track structure has been certified by TUV SW Standardization Certifications at uSky Test & Certification Centre located in Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park. Safety certificate issued by TUV SW was followed by the approval uSky Transport obtained from SRTIP for test operation of the first transport line.

The inspection covered visual check, dimensional control, torque tightening and track deflection, and the structural members were found acceptable in accordance with the test requirements, and the equipment safe to use.
